Former New Mexico Rep. Heather Wilson has seen her last political race.
The Republican, who lost to now-Sen. Martin Heinrich in 2012, told CQ Roll Call on Monday that her second failed Senate bid in four years would be her last run for public office.
"I’ve done my time, and it’s not my intention to run for office again," Wilson said. "So I’m moving on to other things, most likely higher education. I’ll probably also likely serve on some corporate boards."
Since November, she added, "I’ve managed to get my garage clean and my kitchen pantry repainted."
Wilson served five full terms in the House and won several close calls in the Albuquerque-based 1st District, which has trended Democratic for the past decade. Wilson lost her first Senate bid in the 2008 GOP primary to fellow Republican Rep. Steve Pearce, who returned to the House in 2010.
Wilson's second run, also in a presidential year with President Barack Obama on the ticket, ended with a 6-point loss to Heinrich, who succeeded Wilson in the House.
