Senate Conservatives Fund Raises $2.1 Million, Buys Books

A conservative PAC, founded by former Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., had its best fundraising month of the year by raising $2.1 million during September.

The Senate Conservatives Fund reported yesterday it had receipts of $2,130,549 in September, up from raising $1,527,547 during August. Most of the funds came from contributors giving $200 or less. Through 9/30, the PAC has raised $5.6 million in 2013.  September expenditures were $1,328,357, leaving $1,642,456 cash on hand as of 9/30.

In the 2011-2012 cycle the PAC had receipts of $16 million, and made $3.5 million in independent expenditures for and against candidates. Its best fundraising period was from 10/18/12 to 11/26/12 when it raised $2.2 million.

The largest expenditure of the PAC was $522,934 spent on non-candidate issue ads, and $236,990 on telemarketing. The committee reported paying $224,135 in September to Simon & Shuster for "Book Purchase."  The author and title were not listed.
