Arlen "Benny" Cenac Jr. of Houma, La., and the owner of Cenac Towing, pleaded guilty today to making false statements to the Federal Election Commission in regard to contributions in the name of others given to the campaigns of two U.S. senators.
In regards to the same matter, the Federal Election Commission had reached a conciliation agreement with Cenac and his company for using personal and corporate money for the contributions. They agreed to pay a civil penalty of $170,000 in August 2012. The contributions went to the campaigns of Sen. David Vitter, R-La., ($15,000 from Cenac Towing funds) and Sen. Mary L. Landrieu, D-La., ($25,300 from Cenac personal funds).
