Sen. James M. Inhofe, R-Okla., announced this week that he would run for re-election in 2014, but plans had already been under way for months. From April through June, his committee spent a quarter of a million dollars gearing up his image and the campaign.
The committee paid Strategic Perception Inc. of Hollywood, Calif., $46,648 for media consulting, video production and website design; Segmented Media $2,814 for cloud hosting; Harris Media & Design $27,500 for web design, consulting and advertising; Walkingstick Design Co. (Okla.) $1,800 for campaign T-shirts; Amy Ford Bradley (Va.) $24,870 for fundraising; SAGAC Public Affairs (Okla.) $30,493 for fundraising; SCM Associates Inc. (N.H.) $17,386 for direct mail and also owes them another $6,346; among others. The committee also owes FLS Connect LLC $23,964 for fundraising calls and telemarketing.
During the second quarter of 2013, Inhofe's campaign committee raised $668,060 and spent $247,431. As of June 30, the campaign had $1,214,883 in cash on hand, with outstanding bills of $29,310.
The committee raised $65,507 from contributors giving $200 or less, and $281,004 from those giving more than $200. The committee raised $333,700 from PACs and other committees. Many of his PAC receipts came from PACs sponsored by companies in the defense industry or environment-sensitive industries. Inhofe is the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee and also sits on the Environment and Public Works Committee.
Contributions from PACs included those defense-related PACs sponsored by Raytheon, Honeywell, Oshkosh, Lockheed Martin, Huntington Ingalls, General Dynamics, Boeing, BAE Systems, SAIC, United Technologies, General Electric, Textron, among others. Environment-sensitive PACs included those of BP North America, Halliburton, Phillips 66, Occidental Petroleum, Marathon Oil, Chevron, Anadarko Petroleum, Dow Chemical, Exxon Mobil, among others.
