Congressional Campaign Committees Add to War Chests in August

The 2014 congressional campaign war chest of the Democrats increased by $1.5 million in August to $16.1 million, and the Republicans increased by $645,000 to $12.7 million.

The National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee reported receipts of $3.8 million and disbursements of $3.2 million, leaving $12.7 million cash on hand as of 8/31, with no debts.

The committee received $1 million in contributions of $200 or less. They received $1.3 million from PACs and other committees, such as the campaign committees of members of Congress.

Major donors included News Corporation Chairman K. Murdoch, who gave $32,400; Charles Carey (CEO, News Corporation, CT) who gave $32,400; Curtis Stephens (CEO, Stephens Inc, Ark.) who gave $32,400; Randolph Reynolds (president, Reynolds Development LLC, VA) who gave $32,400; Keith Lindner (executive, Chiquita Brands, FL) who gave $32,400; and Henry Paulson (investment banker, Goldman Sachs, IL) who gave $32,400; among others.

The committee paid $750,000 to Wells Fargo Bank to eliminate their debt. The committee spent $460,396 on fundraising phone calls; $367,650 on payroll; among other expenditures.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee  reportedreceipts of $4.6 million and disbursements of $3 million during August, leaving $16.1 million cash on hand. The committee raised $2.3 million from contributors giving $200 or less. Of the $1.8 million in itemized contributions, Texas contributors gave $346,741; California contributors gave $311,496 and Massachusetts contributors gave $165,625. PACs and other committees gave $120,500.

Major donors included Chicago Cubs chairman Laura Ricketts, who gave $32,400; Sallie Bingham (writer, NM) $32,400; Karen Dixon (attorney, DC) $32,400; Julie Domenick (government relations consultant, DC) $32,400; Anne Earhart (investor, CA) $32,400; Cary Patterson (attorney, Nix Patterson & Roach, TX) 32,400; Nelson Roach (partner, Nix Patterson & Roach, TX) $32,400; among others.

The DCCC spent $635,522 on telemarketing; $364,723 on payroll; $364,002 on postage and delivery; and transferred $107,821 to various state party committees. The committee gave $66,975 to various candidate committees.
