Kildee Nephew Might Seek Uncle’s Seat

Rep. Dale Kildee’s nephew, former Genesee County Treasurer Dan Kildee, told Roll Call on Saturday that he’s interested in running for the Michigan Democrat’s House seat.

The 18-term Democrat announced Friday that he would not seek another term. Dan Kildee, who now runs a foundation on urban redevelopment, said he must talk it over with his business partners before making a final decision.

“I’ve got some decisions, and I’ve got to consult with my board and my fundraisers to make sure that this is the right choice for me to do this,” Dan Kildee said. “I’ve been associated with my uncle and his tenure in Congress in some ways. ... I learned a lot from him over the years.”

Michigan insiders expect the Democratic primary for the retiring Congressman’s seat to be a free-for-all. Well-known Democrats such as Lt. Gov. John Cherry, former Rep. Jim Barcia and state Sen. John Gleason have been mentioned as potential candidates.
