Rep. Tim Murphy (above) faces challengers for his Pennsylvania seat from both his left and right now that a Democrat has joined the race.
Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi (D-Pa.) announced Monday that he will challenge Rep. Tim Murphy (R).
“I’m running for Congress because southwestern Pennsylvanians deserve a representative who will put the people of the 18th District ahead of partisan politics,” Maggi said in a statement.
Maggi’s announcement means Murphy now has re-election challenges from both his left and his right flanks. Evan Feinberg, a former aide to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), announced he is challenging Murphy in the GOP primary.
The Democrat will face an uphill battle in the 18th district, a Republican-leaning seat composed of the region south and west of Pittsburgh.
This isn’t Maggi’s first bid for Congress. He unsuccessfully ran for the Democratic nomination in the 18th district in 2002.
