Attorney Terry White dropped out of the Democratic primary to challenge freshman Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-Ind.).
Former state Rep. Dave Crooks and Patrick Scates, who served as a top aide to former Rep. Brad Ellsworth (D), remain in the race. The district favors Republicans.
The two Democrats will square off against each other next week at a series of Democratic Party county meetings. Local party officials will choose their preferred candidate to challenge Bucshon, and Scates and Crooks have agreed to abide by the decision and endorse the winner.
The process is unusual for Indiana Democrats. But the party aims to put all their resources behind a single candidate in order to increase their chances of defeating Bucshon next year.
