Former Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David Leland might jump into the race for the 3rd district.
“I’m taking a very hard look at it,” Leland said in a phone interview.
He said he has fielded a poll about the race and will “have a better idea what the future holds” after he sees the results.
Republicans packed Democrats into the redrawn 3rd district in downtown Columbus, making it a popular attraction for many aspiring candidates.
Former Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy already announced she’ll run, and state Sen. Charleta Tavares and former state Treasurer Kevin Boyce are also interested.
But one previously mentioned candidate, former Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner (D), is out of the running.
Brunner was one of the first candidates to express interest after Republicans released the map. But a source close to Brunner said she’s changed her mind.
Last week, Gov. John Kasich (R) appointed her to the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission.
