Tuesday must have been a slow news day, judging from the satellite trucks converged on the National Mall to record engineers rappelling down the Washington Monument. When I asked photographer Bill Clark which networks were there, he grinned and replied, ‘All of them.’ The engineers were looking for damage from the August earthquake, and close-ups of their work were overdone. We kept coming back to this frame with a worker at the pinnacle as an interesting view of the day.
