We’ve been shooting Richard Burr tooling around Capitol Hill in his ’74 VW Thing for years, but it wasn’t until now that we got the story behind the beast. Our new intern sat down with the Senator last week to learn more about the car, and as I combed through our photo archives, I realized how many great shots we had taken. In this one from December 2009, Burr cruised through the snow on a cold morning to make a Senate vote. He told the intern that he always drives with the top down, and this photo shows he wasn’t kidding.
