Rep. James Clyburn's breakfast event is noteworthy because the South Carolina Democrat is a member of the Join Committee on Deficit Reduction. There was a push (which failed) to create special fundraising rules for these Members because of the power the group will wield. Also, Sen. Patty Murray will host a fundraiser Wednesday for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which she leads.

TODAY

Sept. 11 Remembrance
Congressional leaders from the House and Senate will gather on the East Front steps of the Capitol in the evening to offer reflections on the anniversary. Congressional leaders will have spent all day Sunday, the actual anniversary, attending separate events in New York City, at the Pentagon and in Shanksville, Pa.

TUESDAY

The Super Committee Meets
The deficit reduction panel holds its second meeting. Doug Elmendorf of the CBO will testify.

New York Special Election
This Queens-based Congressional district should be a solid Democratic seat. Anthony Weiner held it since 1999, but the GOP is poised for an upset.

Nevada Special Election
A miracle for Democrats seems less and less likely in the race to replace now-Sen. Dean Heller in this Reno district.

Senate GOP Talks Jobs
By today, the theme of the week will be apparent among Senate Republicans as they continue coordinated floor speeches critical of President Barack Obama’s policies.

The president will travel to the Raleigh-Durham area to talk with voters about his proposal to stimulate job growth.

THURSDAY

Oversight and Government Reform Committee
A string of subcommittee hearings this week will be pushing the argument that heavy-handed government regulations are stifling private-sector job creation. Today’s hearing is “Crowdfunding: Connecting Investors and Job Creators.”

Fundraiser for Rep. Giffords
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is hosting a fundraiser for Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona Democrat recovering from a January shooting.

Fundraiser for Rep. James Clyburn
A breakfast fundraiser for the South Carolina Democrat is being held at J.C. Watts Companies, according to a fundraising list maintained by the Sunlight Foundation.
