The University of California, Los Angeles library will soon unveil the Garry South Collection of Political Research.
Veteran California Democratic strategist Garry South is donating “a room-size treasure trove of private memos, secret campaign strategy plans, never-seen TV spots and correspondence, as well as results of his efforts to dig up dirt on election opponents,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
South has 38 years of government, politics and business consulting experience, including managing former Gov. Gray Davis’ 1998 election and 2002 re-election, as well as his 1994 election as lieutenant governor. He’s currently working on a campaign in California’s tossup 26th district in Ventura County.
The archive has been kept in a climate-controlled storage space and includes research on Davis opponents, including Rep. Dan Lungren (R), who lost to Davis in 1998.
Marriage Equality on TV
Vision Media Marketing, a full-service public relations and media firm in New Jersey, claims it has produced the first known television ad using the issue of marriage equality for an incumbent Member of Congress.
The positive ad, titled “Our Values,” was produced for Rep. Steven Rothman, who is running in the June 5 primary in New Jersey’s 9th district against fellow Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrell.
Paul Swibinski, the firm’s president and a chief strategist to Rothman, said in a statement that the firm’s “emphasis on creativity and out-of-the-box thinking helps all our clients beat the competition, whatever their field of endeavor.”
On to the General
In a release, direct-mail firm Mack Crounse congratulated Critz, President Bill Clinton, who endorsed Critz, organized labor, which helped get out the vote for Critz, and the Congressman’s strong team of consultants.
Along with Mack Crounse, the Critz team included media consultants Steve Murphy and Jon Vogel of Murphy Vogel Askew Reilly; pollsters Joe Hickerson and Jef Pollock of Global Strategy Group; fundraisers Lindsay Angerholzer and Heather Fraser of the Angerholzer Team; campaign manager Tony Coppola; and strategic consultant Mike Mikus.
A Walk in the Park
Democratic polling firm Lincoln Park Strategies recently added two new analysts, Anthony Colello and Doris Parfaite-Claude, who are specializing in campaigns, issue advocacy and nonprofits.
Colello, a Seattle native, has previously worked at the Biotechnology Industry Organization, Brookings Institution and Ashoka. He was a field director for Northern California campaigns at the city and state legislative levels before moving to Washington, D.C.
Parfaite-Claude, a Southern California native, previously conducted research on national economic policy for the Bipartisan Policy Center and post-natural disaster reconstruction for the Carmen Group.
The firm also added Michelle Kirkman as a junior analyst. Kirkman, a Connecticut native, worked on a Virginia state Senate campaign in 2011 and recently interned at Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research.
Kraus Is in the House
Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) has added John Kraus as communications director for her Senate bid in Wisconsin.
