Heard on the Hill: Nothing to Be Nervous About

President Barack Obama is a tough act to follow.

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star Tamara Tunie was on Capitol Hill on Tuesday lobbying in support of Planned Parenthood. When asked if she was nervous about meeting New York Democratic Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, Tunie replied: “No, not at all. I’ve spent time with the president.”

Turns out this wasn’t Tunie’s first trip to D.C. After working with Obama on his 2008 campaign, she attended the inaugural festivities in January 2009.

“It was the thrill of a lifetime,” she recalled.

While that visit may have been for pleasure, Tuesday’s trip was all business.

Tunie was joined in her lobbying efforts by “Sex and the City” actor David Eigenberg and a slew of Planned Parenthood supporters.

“Planned Parenthood is not a negotiable issue,” Tunie told HOH. “It’s important to me as a woman because I believe in the right for women to have access to preventative health care and family planning.”

Eigenberg even got a little heated while discussing an amendment Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) offered to the continuing resolution that would strip the organization of federal funding. Pence had said the organization was too aggressive about performing abortions. “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about,” Eigenberg said.

The actors were scheduled to meet with several lawmakers, including Sens. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.).
