Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (R-N.Y.) hasn’t been in Congress long, but she has already caught on with the successful pairing of sports and fundraising.
The 25th district Representative, who narrowly knocked off Democratic Rep. Dan Maffei last fall, will host a Feb. 9 reception at Bullfeathers. While donations are encouraged in the invitation ($250 for guests, $1,000 for political action committees and $2,000 for hosts), an equally important draw is the game.
The invitation notes that Bullfeathers will be airing the NCAA men’s matchup that pits the hometown Georgetown University Hoyas against Buerkle’s district’s favorite, the Syracuse University Orange. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Terri Henderson, 6, center, whose mother is El Salvador, attends a rally with members of Congress at Union Station's Columbus Circle to announce the Restore Opportunity, Strengthen, and Improve the Economy (ROSIE) Act on July 29, 2014. The legislation provides incentives for government contractors to pay a living wage and other benefits that would help low-income workers.
