Many people look forward to the holidays because of the presents — and let’s face it, the slew of parties with open bars. Rep. Shelley Berkley gets excited for another reason: gambling.
“This is the holiday [during which] the Jews gamble legally, and coming from Las Vegas I couldn’t be happier,” the Nevada Democrat said at a party last week, referring to the traditional game of dreidel.
Berkley joked that she’s joining Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in supporting pro-online dreidel legislation. (Reid is a big backer of legalizing online gambling.)
HOH spotted Berkley munching on latkes alongside newly sworn-in Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) and Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) at a Congressional Hanukkah party held in the Capitol Visitor Center on Wednesday night.
Lieberman was late to the party and blamed his tardiness on the cavernous CVC.
“It’s hard to find this place,” he told the group. “I thought I might not get here until the ninth day of Hanukkah.”
The bipartisan trio came together to light the menorah in celebration of the second-to-last night of Hanukkah.
