Heard on the Hill: Hats Off to Rep.-Elect Wilson?

Fashion on Capitol Hill tends to be on the conservative side (read: dull), so HOH is thrilled that Rep.-elect Frederica Wilson is headed our way.

The Florida Democrat won the House seat vacated by failed Senate candidate Rep. Kendrick Meek (D). As a longtime state Senator, Wilson is well-known in the Sunshine State for wearing colorful, often-bedazzled hats that are usually perfectly paired with a bright suit.

But while we expect Wilson to become the Hills newest fashionista for better or worse, depending on who you ask she likely will have to ditch her trademark headpieces while shes on the House floor.

Although there isnt a specific dress code, hats have been banned on the floor since September 1837. Even the late Rep. Bella Abzug (D-N.Y.) couldnt sport her trademark broad-brimmed hats when she served during the 1970s.

HOH called Wilsons state Senate office to see whether she plans to bend the rules (or if not, how shell deal with hat hair), but we didnt hear back by press time.
