California: Michelle Obama to Campaign for Boxer

Sen. Barbara Boxer, locked in a tight re-election race, announced Tuesday that first lady Michelle Obama will pay her a visit in the last week of the campaign.
Obama will be on the trail with the California Democrat on Oct. 27 in Los Angeles. No other details were released.
“We’re thrilled that in the closing days of the campaign, the First Lady will be coming to California to campaign with us and urge Californians to go to the polls,” Boxer campaign manager Rose Kapolczynski said in a press release.
Boxer is facing Republican Carly Fiorina, a well-financed and organized challenger in what continues to be a close race. Boxer hit the 50 percent mark in a poll last week for the first time since January.
The Fiorina campaign said the move reflects Democrats’ concern for Boxer’s ability to carry the state.
“National Democrats are clearly so nervous about Californians’ distaste for Barbara Boxer and her nearly three-decade political career of supporting job-killing policies and failing the people of California that they are forced to send in reinforcements to try and salvage the only job Boxer cares about — her own,” Fiorina spokeswoman Andrea Soul said.
