Former Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis has a few suggestions for Republicans still searching for a challenger against Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D).

Several high-profile Republicans in the state, including Anuzis, have taken a pass on the race — leaving the GOP still hunting for a candidate.

In a phone interview with Roll Call, Anuzis touted Detroit charter schools activist Clark Durant and Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner John McCullough as potential contenders.

Durant unsuccessfully ran in the GOP Senate primary in 1990.

“If he got in, he would very quickly be the favorite, in respect to the primary,” Anuzis said.

As for McCullough: “I think he’d be a significant player if he can raise the money.”

Anuzis had suggested a local conservative radio host, Frank Beckmann, for the race, but Beckmann took his name out of the running this week.
