New legislation offered by Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.) amends the Clear Air Act of 1970 to prevent the Environment Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions.
In return, the Virginia Democrat has submitted five amendments that would change the name of the bill to:
• Middle Eastern Economic Development and Assistance Act
• Protecting Americans From Polar Bears Act
• Koch Brothers Appreciation Act
• Oil Producing Economy Capitulation Act
• Head in the Sand Act
The names, Connolly admits, are tongue-in-cheek, but they’re designed to make a more serious point.
“Along comes this bill that further propounds the denial of science by the majority,” he said.
Connolly’s spokesman, George Burke, put it more succinctly: “There’s truth in the titles.”
No word yet on what the GOP, polar bears or the Koch brothers think.
