One of Rep. Dan Burton’s (R) primary opponents appears to have outraised him in the past three months, according to Federal Election Commission reports filed Wednesday.

Burton will face at least four Republicans in next year’s primary. One of the candidates, former state Rep. Luke Messer, announced he raised $205,000 in the past three months — about $50,000 more than Burton pulled in during the quarter.

Burton reported raising $152,000 from April to June, but he has $418,000 in cash on hand. Messer reported having less than half of that ($175,000) in the bank.

The other three Republicans in the race against Burton raised significantly less.

Former Marion County Coroner John McGoff, who lost to Burton by 7 points in the 2008 primary, reported raising $39,000 this quarter. Former state Rep. Mike Murphy pulled in $62,000 this quarter and had $81,000 cash on hand. Brose McVey, who previously has run in the 7th district, announced he had raised $26,000 so far for his campaign.
