Rep. Robert Brady took a lot of heat for backing out of his World Series bet with Rep. John Hall the New York Democrat wanted Brady to shave his hair into a mohawk, something the Pennsylvania Democrat apparently isnt prepared to do. But Brady came through on another baseball wager Tuesday afternoon, begrudgingly delivering famed Philadelphia cheesesteaks to New York Rep. José Serrano (D).
Prior to the World Series in which Serranos New York Yankees beat Bradys Philadelphia Phillies in six games the duo pledged that the loser would give the winner culinary goodies from his Congressional district.
Brady personally delivered the sandwiches from Genos Steaks in South Philadelphia to Serrano but HOH notes Brady wasnt about to announce any newfound love for the Bronx Bombers.
Brady arrived in Serranos office sporting a Phillies cap, announcing to staffers: Wheres he at? Lets get this over with. A joyous Serrano welcomed Brady into his office, showing his colleague a framed picture of the old Yankee Stadium and putting on his Yankees cap.
You guys, youre the best team money can buy, Brady said, um, congratulating Serrano on the win.
If I wasnt a Yankee fan, Id be outraged at how much they spend, Serrano admitted. But since Im a Yankee fan ...
Brady described the experience as agony, and he probably wasnt the only person in the office suffering several of Serranos staffers are Phillies fans. And after the Yankees won, Serrano certainly wasnt modest about the big victory he sponsored the House resolution congratulating the team for the championship.
I put them through a lot, having to write that resolution, Serrano said of his staff.
It Doesnt Last Too Long. House Minority Leader John Boehner celebrated his big six-oh in style on Tuesday. During a meeting of the House Republican Conference, colleagues and aides honored the sexagenarian Ohioan with the best birthday present a guy could ask for: a montage.
Set to the tune of Rod Stewarts Forever Young, the multimedia presentation (hatched by the crack AV conference whizzes) featured photos of the birthday boy, spies tell HOH. And no Boehner birthday celebration would be complete without the infamous Boehner Birthday Song, the catchy ditty the GOP leader often springs on birthday celebrants.
HOH hears the presentation ended with a video clip of Boehner singing the song on the House floor to Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Texas).
To welcome Boehner to his 60s, HOH would like to note a few other 60-year-old celebrities who are still going strong: former athlete Bruce Jenner, actress Judith Light, famous divorcée Ivana Trump and rocker Gene Simmons.
