Nation: New RNC Ads Target 60 Members on Health

The Republican National Committee has launched radio ads in 33 states that target 60 House Democrats on pending health care legislation. The RNC is spending almost $1 million on the overall effort, which also includes TV ads (currently airing in Nevada, North Dakota and Arkansas) and other nationwide grass-roots organizing efforts that will take place through August.

An announcer in the 60-second radio spot accuses the Democratic House Members of making a “dangerous experiment” in health care reform.

“If Barack Obama and the Democrats get their way, the federal government will make the decisions about your health care,” says the announcer. “And their plan costs a trillion dollars we don’t have. You have to pay a new tax to keep your private insurance. It’s too much, too fast.”

The radio ads are primarily targeting Democrats in conservative districts, including many members of the Blue Dog Coalition.

Among the vulnerable freshmen being targeted are Democratic Reps. Bobby Bright (Ala.), Parker Griffith (Ala.), Betsy Markey (Colo.), Alan Grayson (Fla.), Suzanne Kosmas (Fla.), Walt Minnick (Idaho), Frank Kratovil (Md.), Mark Schauer (Mich.), Larry Kissell (N.C.), Harry Teague (N.M.), Steve Driehaus (Ohio), Mary Jo Kilroy (Ohio), Glenn Nye (Va.) and Tom Perriello (Va.).
