The nice weather last week brought plenty of staffers and other Hill denizens out of their cubicles to soak up some rays, and HOH tipsters caught a few notable sun-seekers around the Capitol grounds.
On Thursday, a woman wearing an itsy-bitsy bikini spread out in the grass just outside the House side of the Capitol, creating a stir among staffers and reporters who rushed to the windows to check out the, er, revealing views.
And on Friday, an HOH spy caught what appeared to be a House staffer who stretched out on the concrete just outside of the Cannon House Office Building.
The guy, dressed in work-appropriate clothes, had a rolled-up newspaper under his head and looked to be fast asleep, our spy says.
Everyone asked me if we should check to see if he was alive, the tipster says.
Fortunately, the sleepy staffer eventually showed signs of life, getting up after logging a solid 15-minute disco nap.
Murder at the Ugly Mug?
Popular Capitol Hill bar the Ugly Mug played a part in a grisly crime Thursday, but rest assured, it was just made-for-TV drama. The bar was the setting for a re-enactment of a crime for the show Americas Most Wanted.
Daytime manager Kevin Lyons tells HOH that the film crew was re-creating a scene from a murder that took place in Chicago in 1998. The victim, a waitress, met her killer at a bar, and the Ugly Mug stood in for the Chicago saloon. Lyons played the bartender, and a few other employees acted, too.
The crew brought lights and audio equipment into the bar. It was a big setup for probably a minute of footage, Lyons says.
They were told the episode would air Saturday. Lyons says hes ready for his close-up. At least my hands might get on screen, he says.
Democrats Dolce Vita
Looks like some Members of Congress are just as excited as the rest of us to have a new dining option on Capitol Hill. An HOH tipster spotted Democratic Reps. Joe Courtney (Conn.), John Tierney (Mass.) and George Miller (Calif.) leaving the brand-spanking-new Aqua al 2 on Wednesday night.
The trio apparently checked out the Italian outpost, located across the street from Eastern Market, which has sister locations in San Diego and Firenze, Italy.
Jason Chaffetz Isnt On Board
A House committee voted to honor professional surfer Robert Kelly Slater and praise him for being a role model to young surfers around the globe but not so fast, dude: Rep. Jason Chaffetz isnt quite convinced.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Thursday adopted a block of noncontroversial commemorative measures, including one sponsored by Rep. Bill Posey (R-Fla.) calling Florida native Slater an ambassador of the sport and excellent role model.
Usually, bills like that sail through committee without so much as a blink of an eye. Chaffetz, though, expressed some reservations about the measure.
Vice President Joe Biden waits to conduct a mock swearing-in ceremony with Sen. Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii, in the Capitol's Old Senate Chamber, December 2, 2014. Schatz was sworn in to serve the remainder of his term since he was appointed to the seat after Sen. Daniel Inouye, D-Hawaii, passed away.
