Alabama: Love Loves Palin, Is First to Put Her in Ad

Republican Jay Love is quickly becoming known as the candidate this cycle with the fastest television ad turnaround time.

On Wednesday, Love’s campaign issued a news release that touted the state Representative as the first Congressional candidate in the United States to involve “the increasingly popular” Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin in a Congressional television ad.

Palin emerged from political obscurity less than two weeks ago to become the darling of the Republican Party after being tapped as Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) running mate.

Love’s 30-second ad includes an image of McCain standing with the Alaska governor as Love states, “I’m supporting pro-lifers John McCain and Sarah Palin. My opponent isn’t.”

Love goes on to attack his Democratic opponent, Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright, for taking campaign contributions from “San Francisco liberal [Speaker] Nancy Pelosi” and “her friends.”

Love said in the campaign release that “from the moment she came onto the national scene, Gov. Palin has added a tremendous amount of energy to the Republican Party. I couldn’t wait to involve her in our campaign and publicly express my belief that she and Sen. McCain are the right people to lead this country.”

Almost four months ago, Love was also the first Congressional candidate to release a campaign ad that referenced the California Supreme Court’s decision to strike down the state’s ban on same-sex marriage. That ad was released just one day after the court handed down its decision.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spokeswoman Kyra Jennings criticized the new ad.

“Jay Love’s decision to hitch his wagon to national Republicans and mislead voters about Bobby Bright’s pro-life values shows that he is desperate to distract from his own tax-raising record,” Jennings said.
