Dan Maffei, the likely Democratic nominee in the race to replace retiring Rep. Jim Walsh (R), is prepared to report that he raised about $470,000 from April 1 to June 30.

He closed the three-month period with more than $950,000 in cash on hand.

According to Maffei’s campaign, the April-June period was the most successful fundraising quarter for the former Capitol Hill staffer since he began running for Congress in the 2006 cycle. Maffei took in $369,000 in the last quarter of that year, when he gave Walsh the political scare of his life, finishing 2 points behind the Congressman.

Maffei spent $918,000 on his losing effort in 2006, compared to more than $1.7 million for Walsh. This cycle, Maffei has already raised $1.3 million.

The leading Republican candidate in the Syracuse-area 25th district, former Onondaga Legislature Chairman Dale Sweetland, was not prepared to release his latest fundraising figures on Monday. This will be the first quarter that Sweetland has submitted an FEC report.
