House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) was nowhere to be found at Wednesdays black-tie Radio and Television Correspondents Association Dinner. Though the genial Hoyer usually likes a party, he had a good excuse for skipping the canapés and schmoozing: Hoyer was mourning the death of his beloved English springer spaniel, Charlotte.

Who could blame hundreds of Members of Congress for joining with a colleague and breast cancer survivor, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.), in co-sponsoring legislation aimed at promoting breast cancer education?
