Operation Smile spokesmodel Jessica Simpson escaped Capitol Hill in such a hurry Thursday to resume shooting a movie in New Mexico that she forgot her shoes — two pairs, to be exact. (No telling how many pairs she brought with her!)
Simpson’s best friend and personal assistant, CaCee Cobb, called the office of Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) to report that her buddy and boss had left some shoes behind. Franks’ aides went looking and were delighted to find Simpson’s knee-high black leather boots with silver trim at the top — size 7 1/2 — and a size 38 pair of sling-back Manolo Blahniks, also black.
Franks’ spokeswoman, Lindsey Mask, swears that no one in the office tried on Simpson’s shoes for fun, not even the Congressman, in the star-struck euphoric aftermath of the media mania Simpson sparked with her mere presence on the Hill.
Franks’ staff simply put the shoes in a FedEx bag and shipped the boots and the Manolos to the address in New Mexico that Cobb gave them. Presumably, that’s where Simpson is staying while she’s shooting the movie “Employee of the Month.”
The 25-year-old, soon-to-be-divorced singer/actress and Franks were joined at the hip all day Thursday, since the Congressman, who was born with a cleft palate, was also promoting the charity’s work to repair children’s facial deformities.
So, naturally, his office was the perfect place for Simpson to change in and out of as many shoes as she needed for her various news conferences and meetings. She couldn’t possibly, after all, wear the same pair of shoes to a meeting with House Members as she would to a meeting with Senators. Puh-leeze.
Despite Simpson’s apparent high-
maintenance shoe issues, Mask, who like the Simpson clan is from Texas, described the “Dukes of Hazzard” and reality TV actress as “warm and down-to-earth.” And Simpson’s father, Joe, despite his controlling, overbearing reputation, was, Mask said, “awesome” and “so loving.”
Simpson’s entourage, which Mask said had a “nice personal feel to all of it,” included Cobb, the starlet’s father, her aunt from Fort Worth, Texas, her hairdresser, Ken Paves, and a small bevy of makeup people. Wonder how many of them it took to carry her shoes?
