Who says potheads are forgetful and unmotivated?
We learned differently last week after the hemp lobby came out of the woodwork to cheer its latest legislative hero, Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.).
Hemp, of course, is the industrious little brother of munchies-inducing marijuana. The low-grade strain of cannabis sativa has long been championed for its myriad commercial uses (clothing, paper, fuel) but remains heavily regulated by the federal government.
Vote Hemp got so excited about Wyden’s pro-hemp amendment to the evolving 2012 farm bill that the non-profit group pinged us twice on Twitter and seeded our inbox with flowery press releases all within the same hour.
Should Wyden’s plan go up in smoke, the group has another champion just across the Capitol: GOP presidential hopeful and diehard libertarian Rep. Ron Paul (Texas) drafted an industrial hemp exemption last fall.
