Back in 1996, when I graduated from college with a freshly minted bachelors degree in political science from Columbia University, I came back to Washington, D.C., thinking I would take the town by storm. After all, hadnt I just earned a degree from one of the most prestigious institutions in the country? There was no way a hometown kid with those kinds of credentials could lose, I remember thinking. My first real job was scouting talent for Vin Di Bonas TV show, Americas Funniest People. It was a freelance position and I had to watch people do really incredible, strange, gross and unbelievably stupid things. Its amazing how so many folks can swallow a piece of spaghetti and pull it out their nose.
