Oh, For Peet's Sake! Heather Podesta Signs Coffee Chain | Downtown Moves

If you get a call from Heather Podesta or someone at Heather Podesta + Partners asking you to go to coffee, you can rest assured where you'll end up going. Podesta, the woman who proudly displayed a scarlet "L" for the world to see her lobbying bona fides, has signed up to represent Peet's Coffee & Tea as it expands into Washington's caffeine streams. Peet's, the Bay Area coffee chain founded in 1966 in Berkeley, Calif., (where Podesta went to school at the University of California, Berkeley), has won out as the brand of choice for investment firm Joh. A. Benckiser, which acquired both Peet's and Caribou Coffee back in 2012. Last year, Caribou found out it was drawing the short straw, as Benckiser announced it was going to shutter Caribous up and down the East Coast and re-brand some of them as Peet's. That will include Caribous near K Street and the White House in Washington later this spring. "As a student at UC Berkeley, I had my first cup of Peet's coffee in the late 80s. Nothing compares. Whether it is their coffee or tea, to drink it, is to love it. We are delighted to represent Peet's and tell its story to Congress and other opinion leaders," Podesta said in a statement. Or, as Shannon Wheeler's Too Much Coffee Man sang in his own opera: "Coffee, coffee ... you stimulate, articulate and fill me with caffeine." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTeuW4BvqZM
